With over two decades of experience in Human development, Sumita has founded and leads Flowering Tree, Inc, an International Foundation that supports Children's Education and Women's Development in Asia. For the last ten years, she has built considerable expertise in Education and Development. She works in the US, Singapore and India and has exposure to cross cultural issues, policy, research in these areas.
She has an MBA in Human Resources from XLRI, India's leading Human resources program, an MA in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, a leading research institution, and a Bsc Honors in Physics from Presidency College, Kolkata. With this varied education, she brings a multidisciplinary perspective to Education and Development.
She has been frequently invited to write and speak on topics of education, development and leadership.
Apart from being a Founder Board member of Flowering Tree, she also serves on the board of Northfield Mount Hermon, a preparatory school in the US.
